Our national flag has been earned by us with much sacrifice and blood. On March 1, 1971, A.S.M. Abdur Rab hoisted the first independent flag of independent Bangladesh on the floor of Dhaka University.

Our national flag was designed by Kamrul Hasan. There are two colours used in our national flag. Red circle inside green square. The green colour of our flag represents the nature of our country. Bangladesh is a lush green country. Our motherland is covered with green. Surrounded by green vegetation. The green colour of our national flag represents the green nature of our motherland Bangladesh.

জাতীয় পতাকা একটি স্বাধীন দেশের পরিচয় বহন করে। স্বাধীন দেশের প্রতীক হিসেবে কাজ করে একটি পতাকা।স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের একটি পতাকা রয়েছে। আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা আমরা অনেক ত্যাগ ও রক্তের বিনিময়ে অর্জন করেছি। ১৯৭১ সালের ১ মার্চ  ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বট তলায় আ.স.ম আব্দুর রব সর্বপ্রথম স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীন পতাকা উত্তলন করেন।

আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার ডিজাইন করেন কামরুল হাসান। আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকায় দুটি রং ব্যবহার করা হয়েছে। সবুজ চতুর্ভূজের ভিতর লাল বৃত্ত। আমাদের পতাকার সবুজ রং দ্বারা বুঝানো হয়েছে আমাদের দেশের প্রকৃতিকে।বাংলাদেশ একটি সুজলা সুফলা শস্য শ্যামলা দেশ। আমাদের মাতৃভূমি সবুজে আবৃত। চারদিকে সবুজ গাছপালা দ্বারা আবৃত।

আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার সবুজ রং দ্বারা আমাদের মাতৃভূমি বাংলাদেশের সবুজ প্রকৃতিকে বুঝানো হয়েছে। আর আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার  ভিতরের লাল রং দ্বারা বুঝানো হয়েছে সবুজ প্রকৃতির উপর উদীয়মান সূর্যকে এছাড়াও আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার ভিতরের লাল রং দ্বারা আমাদের স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধে যারা তাদের রক্ত দান করেছে তাকে নির্দেশ করা হয়েছে। ১৯৭১ সালে এক রক্তক্ষয়ি যুদ্ধের বিনিময়ে আমারা আমাদের স্বাধীনতা এবং একটি জাতীয় পতাকা অর্জন করেছি।

তাই এই সকল শহীদদের রক্তের প্রতি সম্মান প্রদর্শন করার জন্য আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার ভিতরে লাল বৃত্তের ব্যাবহার হয়েছে।একটি পতাকা একটি দেশের স্বাধীনতার প্রতীক বহন করে। আমরা আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা অর্জনের জন্য লাখো মানুষের প্রাণ বিসর্জন দিয়েছি। তাই আমাদের উচিত আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকার মর্যাদা রক্ষা করার জন্য সব সময় কাজ করা যেন এর মর্যাদা ক্ষুণ না হয়।
